Exploiting Natural Language Processing for Improving Health Processes

چکیده
In the medical world, high quality digital registration in an Electronic Patient Dossier (EPD) of symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, test results, images, interpretations, and outcomes becomes commonplace. Together with a shortage of medical professionals, means that they experience pressure at the expense of actual ‘hands on the bed’. On the other hand, EPDs contain a wealth of largely unused, unstructured textual information. Clinicians primarily communicate with each other through letters and reports. Our main question is: Can Natural Language Processing (NLP) exploit this wealth? By extracting structured data and using it as features for machine learning, a wide variety of process improvements become possible. Furthermore, it may contribute to the desire of government and health stakeholders to simplify registration and relieve pressure. This paper sketches a few prominent process improvements that we plan to research.

Exploring and exploiting plants extracts as the natural dyes/antimicrobials in textiles processing
The large number of publications in the field of extraction, purification, modification, and process optimization of natural dyes and their application on textiles demonstrates the revival of natural dyes on textile coloration. The use of natural dyes is growing in popularity because of the quality of the natural dyestuff obtained, the environmental compatibility of the dyes and the substantial...
متن کاملAssisting Requirements Recovery from Legacy Documents
Business change is often accompanied by loss of continuity of experience. This has serious implications for the adaptation of an organisation’s software since people with detailed knowledge of either the software or business processes may be unavailable to inform its adaptation. In many cases organisational memory will persist principally in the form of documents such as requirements specificat...
متن کاملParsing
One reason for the wide variety of views on many subjects in computational linguistics (such as parsing) is the diversity of objectives which lead people to do research in this area. Some researchers are motivated primarily by potential applications the development of natural language interfaces for computer systems. Others are primarily concerned with the psychological processes which underlie...
متن کاملExploiting N-Gram Analysis to Predict Operator Sequences
N-gram analysis provides a means of probabilistically predicting the next item in a sequence. Due originally to Shannon, it has proven an effective technique for word prediction in natural language processing and for gene sequence analysis. In this paper, we investigate the utility of n-gram analysis in predicting operator sequences in plans. Given a set of sample plans, we perform n-gram analy...
متن کاملSituating natural language understanding within experience-based design
Building useful systems with an ability to understand \real" natural language input has long been an elusive goal for Artiicial Intelligence. Well-known problems such as ambiguity, indi-rectness, and incompleteness of natural language inputs have thwarted eeorts to build natural language interfaces to intelligent systems. In this article, we report on our work on a model of understanding natura...
